Dr. Reena Patel joined the AO Multispecialty Clinic team in fall 2021.  Dr. Patel is a graduate of Georgia State University and fulfilled her residency at Augusta University (formerly the Medical College of Georgia).  She completed her Medical Oncology and Hematology fellowship at MUSC in Charleston, SC.

Aside from spending ages 2 – 6 living in India with her maternal grandparents, Dr. Patel is a “Georgia girl, born and raised.”  She’s the middle child of three girls born to first generation Indian immigrants who left behind their family and friends in search of a better life in America.

Those close to her were surprised to learn that she chose to go into medicine, as Dr. Patel is the first and only physician in her family.  But the choice was instinctive for her.  “For as long as I can remember I have wanted to go into the medical field,” she said.  “It seems like every class I took or experience I had in life all pointed me towards becoming a physician.”   Her decision to work in oncology was solidified after witnessing the powerful physician-patient relationship during her rotations as a medical student.

Because seeing an oncologist is typically not ever on anyone’s radar, Dr. Patel always stresses to her patients that she “will always be there to support not only them but also their family.  This isn’t something they will ever have to go through alone.”

Dr. Patel makes her home in Augusta with her husband, Dr. Shalin Shah of Alliance Spine & Pain, whom she met while studying at MCG.  In her free time, she enjoys traveling, as well as painting and learning calligraphy.

Dr. Patel is now accepting new patients at our Wheeler Road office, as well as our downtown Augusta office.
